1997 Starcraft pop up camper question

Does anyone know how to raise the top on a 1997 Starcraft pop up camper?
I have never had a camper and am thinking of purchasing one but I want to inspect the inside but didn't know how the top lifts.

Thanks.

Unless they changed the design

we used to have one. There should be a small winch on the front hitch.
Undo the corner clamps ( 4) , find the crank handle, and then crank away. Make sure the ratchet lock on the winch is working porperly.

The cables run from the winch to 4 ea cables that are inside the extension poles that support the top.

Once the top is up, look for the bed supports ( folding brackets ) that will go from the top of the camper body, and are inserted into the frame down below.

Then you can slide out the beds, and be able to judge the floor size and layout.

I thought our Starcraft was one of the better built tent trailers out there.

If you do get it, I would recommend looking into an awning. There should be an aluminium circular rail along the top of the camper's top, that you slide the edge of the of the awning into - preferable before you raise the top. An awning will increase your livable 'floor' sapce. I can't remember the number of times we went camping and it always rained or drizzled. It was nice to have the extra dry area in front of the door.

Thanks for the input!!

Is the crank handle attached or do you have to actually FIND it and insert it?

Also, where can you find an awning for these?
