Burned up clutch, pressure plates, throw out bearings.....

Do you smell anything when applying the gas and clutch?

How does the shifter feel? Does it feel like the linkage broke and it's really loose?

I agree with the clutch mostly. while the engine is running and the cluth pedal pushed in can you shift gears wihtout them grinding. also with engine off and help from a friend you crawl under vehicle and find the inspection hole on the bell housing and look inside with a flash light and have you friend push the cluthch in and out and make sure that everything is moving, other possibility depending on what kind of truck it is the clutch cable could need to be adjusted if it has a cable we do not know be cause you did not tell us what kind of truck it was or what year it is
