Dodge Ram 1500, Stalls

1995 Dodge ram 1500, 5.2 318 A/T

Engine almost stalls, rpm's go up & down when stopped in traffic. Diagnostic check had no codes stored in computer. They recomend that I replace, plugs, plug wiring, distributor cap and rotor. I did that plus and air filter and breather cap. Fuel Injectors seem ok, have been faithful with cleaners in fuel tank. Diagnostic check showed fuel pump psi @ 41, (normal rating 35 to 45)

When going up hill, engine power lost and then recatches to normal.

Did not replace ignition coil, not sure if I should have? Engine has 153K miles on it. Thinking of replacing EGR valve next? Just sooo lost on this problem.

Thank you for your time & help,
Earl Wade

It could be a few things:

Pull EGR and clean it with carbon cleaner, make sure it's working freely.

Change fuel filter, although it should act up all the time if plugging the fuel flow.

It could still be fuel pump acting up or pressure regulator at the rail. If you have your own tester try checking it at time of malfunction. I know this is difficult to do, but it catches the problem in the act.

The other thing I can think of is a MAP sensor. That truck should have one or something similar. It could cause that type of problem.

MAP sensor and EGR should give codes.

Hope this helps,
