76 Ford Econoline Camper Van Gas Guage Problems

Me again. Now gas guage is acting up. It reads exactly at one half full, no matter how much gas is in it. I thought it might be the ground, but generally when it is a ground problem, my experience has been that it doesn't move at all and reads below the empty level to the far left.

76 Ford Econoline Camper Van Gas Guage Problem

Further to my problem; Vehicle stalled on road, had to have it towed home, it wouldn't restart, no smell of gas in front of engine, in spite of continual pumping of bas pedal. Last year, had fuel pump changed, and piece of gas line replaced(it burned out the pump due to lack of fuel) New plugs installed one month ago. Before dying, gas guage still registerd near the middle.

Carburated I presume? If so try dumping a very small amount of gas down the carb throat and if it runs while you're feeding it gas it has to do with getting fuel. If not it's probably electrical. Mechanical or electric fuel pump?
Check your grounds.
