92 ford f150

I am helping with a 92 f-150. we think one of the lifters was collapsed? we took apart the fuel injection assembly and the manifold. there was alot of black gas on the block we can not find out why it was there? also if I can get any tips on finding out what lifter is bad, they all feel the same? and any tips on things we should consider while we are in there?

If one of your lifters has collapsed you'll have a definite clicking noise coming from the extra clearance.

If you decide to replace the lifter and you plan to keep the truck for a while, I would replace the whole set. Sometimes cleaning the engine with motor flush will loosen up stuck lifters, but if the problem is due to wear, they'll all have about the same wear.

In terms of the gas on the block, I doubt if the two conditions are related. That sounds more like a leaking gasket on the fuel system.

Hope this helps,
