Trailer Water Heater

I have a 1984 Mallard trailer with a pilot light type 6 gal. water heater, can this be replaced with one without a pilot light and how hard is the electric if this can be done.

Has anyone used a tankless type heater?

Thanks

It can be done, but check with nearest RV dealer & see what all the parts will cost you separately. Getting 12VDC to it is the easy/cheapest part. By the time you replace Gas valve & burner assy, then an ignitor & circuit board, switch etc, it might be smarter to replace it complete, tank and all. I'm thinking yours is an "Atwood" model water heater, but possibly a Suburban.Check this link as I see atwood now makes a pilot, relight model, which may be cheaper way to go, as gas valve etc appears same.
