lighting issue

I have a 2001 ford explorer xlt. This weekend it seems as thou the Daytime Running Lights "got activated". Not even sure if this was a feature that was on my truck as I am not orginal owner. I can not figure out how to shut them off? In the manual it said that the tail lamps do not avtivate with the DRL on. They asre on so not sure what exactly is going on. Would like to turn off the DRL and see what happens?????
