Engine Oil

What is the recommended oil for a 2008 Chevrolet 2500 HD Durmax diesel engine?

A friend is recommending Rotella. What do you other diesel owners use?

We use dello 400 in all our trucks. Seems to work ok for us.

I use Rotella T in my Cummins 24 valve, 2001. I've only got 362K on it, so I use a pint of Lucas every oil change. Doesn't burn oil, thankfully. Cranks when I tell it to. Something that new, and probably still under warranty, do what the Chevy says. Engines cost too much.
Dodge makes it......Cummins shakes it.

Thanks, guys for the input. It's my first diesel. I am happy with it so far. Pulls like I want it to.

I scared myself the first time I drove a Duramax on an icy road. No shortage of power.

Ken, if it is a manual transmission, make sure you remember the clutch. If I am in a low enough gear and forget to press the clutch, the engine will absolutely not bog down and die. And the brakes won't hold it. It will push you through whatever is ahead of you without blinking. Love my diesel. You should, too with the mountains up there.
