Air conditioning mold smell
Hey, have a '91 toyota pickup, all is fine except, now that the warmer weather is here, the air smells of mold. Was told by a mechanic friend that the system has mold in it. Anything I can do to fix it?? Thanks in advance.

Greetings
General Motors products had this problem a few years back.
Check the evaporator drain tube for a blockage.
GM makes an aerosol, sanitizing spray that you spray into the evaporator case to cure the problem.

If you can gain relatively easy access to the evaporator, spray the surface with vinegar ; this will neutralize the odor . The smell of vinegar will linger for awhile but will dissipate with usage of the a/c. Also, if you shut down your a/c about 3 minutes before youre ready to turn off the engine , this will give the evaporator surface and drain pan a chance to rid themselves of all standing water via the motion of the car, plus, the Blower airflow will help evaporate any static moisture that was leftover from the last a/c cycle.
In the event you cannot reach the evaporator , then you might try spraying vinegar in the form of a light mist into the return air intake within the cab while the BLower is on high speed ; this will end up on the evaporator surface but in a far smaller quantity .
Lastly, if you just want to freshen up the air in the Cab, use Febreze available at most food stores ; it neutralizes odors quite well and comes in a variety of smells for your extra added convenience. Regards.
