GMC pkup spare tire won't lower

Because of neglect,my spare tire is stuck up and won't lower.
Cable cranks down o.k.

Anybody have a fix for this?

Not sure, but I had a spare stuck to the undercoating on the truck. Guess it was put up too soon. You say you can get the cable to lower but the tire won't? Try prying it. out of the hole.

You also might try whacking the perimeter with a rubber mallet - be carefull so the tire doesn't fall on you

possible that the safety retainer is stuck. read your owners manual to learn how to get it to release.

I just had mine done today! I had a flat and was out of luck on trying to change the flat.

Garage yanked, pryed, sprayed a penetrating oil between the inside tire rim, and the bracket that actually holds the tire up
in place.
It came down,yay!!!

Mechanic said that the tire should not snugged up tight.
Just tight enough so that the tire has some slight movement. Supposedly this prevents crud from forming.

I,too neglected to lower and raise the tire occasionally.

According to the article in the mag. Spray with a corrosion preventative or coat everything with marine grease.
