Trailer light wiring

I am looking to convert the 7 wire round plug on my trailer to work on my sons 4 wire straight plug on his truck. I have made an adapter but I can't seem to get the running lights working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jack

Jack, just for info, they make adapters for that, but since you are on a DIY roll, here goes. You have 4 wires...white, green, yellow and brown. White is ground and must be grounded to both vehicles. Green is for right signal lights. Yellow is for left signal lights. Brown is for running lights. If you look inside your 7 pin adapter, you should see letters denoting the color of wire that should go there.

I have seen adapters to mate 7 pin on the tow vehicle to 4 pin on the trailer but not the other way around. What chandler says. Also make sure you have good ground connections. Some installers use the coupler rather than wiring through the plug but this is not reliable.
