12 volt wiring

I'm installing power window shades in the front windows of my 03 Southwind Class A. No problem mounting the shades but hooking up the wiring is not going well. I thought I could tap into wires going to one of the overhead lights, install an in-line fuse, and be on my way. That worked fine but, the wires quickly became very warm and I am afraid to leave them hooked up. Any suggestions?

If the wire got very warm quickly then the wire is too small for the shades. You need to use bigger gauge wire to feed the shades.
12 volt is similar to 120 volt in that the wire needs to be sized for the amount of amps going through it. Do the instructions not state what size wire to use?

As badeyeben suggested you should use heavier gauge wire, but the circuit needs to be completed through a relay. A 30 amp "Bosch Mini Giant" should work perfectly.
