Ever seen a receiver hitch shank 1 5/8" square? Odd ball size help needed.

Ever the bargain hunter, I brought home from a yard sale what I thought was a class III Reese ball head, shank & load leveling spring bars.

A Reese tag is on the Bars (trunions?) 7/8" square. V-5 Max Gross trailer wt 4000lbs.

The ball head has Reese 54857 (I think) cast into the metal.

My problem: the shank that slides into the reciever measures 1 5/8" square.

Class III is 2" Class I & II are supposed to measure 1 1/4"

Since this is presumably old stuff I bought, have any of you fellas ever run into oddball sizes like this?

Could I maybe just weld up a sleve to shim this thing tight?

Thanks chandler for that link.

On their page it says "Warning: Class II Receiver are not intended to be used with Weight Distribution Systems."

Perhaps what I brought home was from a time when that was not the case?
