With those types of trailers you can lay the tailgate flat on the bed. Then run a couple of 2x4's perpendicular to the side rails attaching with clamps or bolts. Then you can lay your kayaks across the 2x4's. IF you want, you could add some eye bolts to the 2x4's to aid with strapping down the kayaks.

It depends on how much work you want to do.
Tolyn's idea would work or you could make something more elaborate.


Built this last year specifically for one canoe but it can easily be adapted to carry two or even two kayaks.



The box at the back holds a 3 1/2 hp boat motor and the two boxes along the sides are pu truck tool boxes that hold rods, fishing gear and life-jackets for two.
