Need help rewiring my 1988 Chevy C1500 pickup..
I have replaced switches and* attempted to strengthen connections with electrical tape to no avail; and am now determined to fix the problem from the ground up. I have no experience with automotive electrical work and would very much appreciate as much detailed help as possible. My primary goal is to rewire my rear and front lights, as well as the door locks and windows.

I would add to that, if you're not proficient with a soldering gun now would be a good time to learn. Lasting electrical repairs are made with soldered connections and heat-shrink tubing rather than crimp-on connectors and/or electrical tape.
Beyond that, as Wrench says, you're going to need a diagram and plenty of patience. The good news is that it's an older vehicle, sometimes less confusing circuits than newer stuff, and a truck, often easier to access wiring harness.

Could be a larger undertaking than you imagine. Just so you know though, see if you can find a wiring diagram at autozone.com. If nothing else, you'll have a better idea what you're getting into. Wiring on cars aint what it used to be... No where near as accessible for starters. Good luck. :-)

Don't fix it if it isn"t broke
Uh. Complete re-wiring a vehicle even with factory harnesses and diagrams can be a nightmare. I suggest you determine which is "broken" and repair by adding wiring fixes as required.
However, I know some of us love a challenge. SO GOOD LUCK.
Its all fun
