2005 Dakota Ball Joint General Practice Question

2005 Dakota crew cab, 4X4, V8, 74Kmiles, Great truck! Want to change upper & lower ball joints, out tie rod as well as hub bearing. On this vehicle, is it generally practiced to change the control arm/with upper ball joint, or is just the ball joint enough. Some parts stores I have noticed wont sell upper ball joint by itself?

btw, the front right side hub bearing went out about 18mo ago, replaced that, so thats reason I want to change driver side bearing, before it has chance to fail on road, as long as parts are broken down that far, I figure time to do ball joints & tie rod. Thanks,,

Hi Rshack,

You can get just the ball joints for your truck. You'll likely have to drill out some rivets on the uppers and find a ball joint press to do the lowers.

Dodge would love to sell you just the control arm.

Hope it helps.

I have 120k on my 2000 club cab, 4x4, 4.7. Yes, they are a great truck!
