heater

hi, i have a 2002 dodge ram 1500. when i turn on the heat it starts to blow out warm air than turns cold than i can start smelling atifreeze. would that be cause by a back up in the heater core or is the heater core just bad

If you smell antifreeze IN the vehicle then there's a good chance the heater core is leaking. A leak inside is a very sweet smelling nauseating smell. Also....it'll usually cause your interior windows to fog up.

Normally even if it leaks it still works ok. I believe you may have a hot water valve under your hood. It would be in series with one of the heater core lines.
