thermostat will not open

thermostat will not open

on my 89 chevy truck the thermostat will not open to let the water flow . it is a new thermostat and will open when placed in a pan of boiling water on the stove

my guess is an air pocket. you will have to blead it out. with out coolant around the the t-stat it will not work right. also why do you think the water is not flowing?

Does there happen to be a small nut on top of the thermostat housing? If so, that is the bleeder.

top radiator hose not getting hot.it get hot only after i release the pressure out of the system

I put a block heater on one time and it wouldn't circulate till I replaced the rad cap.

are you sure the truck is reaching the temp needed to open the t-stat? and does the heater hoses get hot? both?

Are you sure the thermostat is installed correctly? If installed backward it wont open.

Your engine head and block should be placed according to the specifications. Otherwise, water pressure will continue to build up and thermostat valve will never open at its own. Try to check your head, block and genuine head gas kit, before you change more thermostat valves. After doing this, I am sure you will never get this heat problem again.
