Unhappy Heating/AC System not working properly

Hi,

I have a 2008 4.0 Ford ranger sport with about 150 000 km.

So last winter I noticed that my heater would only blow hot air out of the defrost. Once in a while it would work at all vents then back to only blowing out the defrost. The same thing was happening this spring with the AC. Now all of a sudden all the vents are working but there is no cold air from AC, and the compressor continuously kicks on and off as long as the AC is turned on. I also noticed today that even when just the fan was on (not set for AC) the AC compressor was still kicking on and off, and would only stop when the fan was completely in the off position. I havent checked anything except the low side which reads between 38 and 40 PSI when on high (and 50 when truck is off).

Any thoughts on this before I bring it into the shop? Could it be the Blend Door Acuator?

Welcome to the forum.

Your AC compressor is probably cycling due to low freon.

On this forum we don't discuss actual pressure readings but I can tell you that you need the freon checked.

The AC will actually come on in several settings. They do that to dehumidify the air.
