71 f250
I have a 71 f250 with a 390. The man I bought it from told me the gas tank has silk? in it whatever that means. What I do know is it spits and sputters sometimes and has trouble idleing. My question is is there something out there to clean the tank out with or should I just replace it?

Welcome to the forums! He may have used the term "silt", which is like mud. I have heard of people running tubes down in their tanks and vacuuming out what silt they could, but, of course, the best way to do it is remove the tank and clean it out while it is off the vehicle. Keeping the fuel tank full of gas will help keep the pump away from the silt. Letting it get too low will cause problems. I'd pull the tank....empty.

In addition, at that age it's certainly possible that the carburetor needs an overhaul or at the very least run some cleaner through it via the gas tank (after cleaning); Seafoam is about as good as anything.
