The evaporator, right?
I'd start looking in the quarter panel behind the driver's side door area, probably accessed by removing the interior panel. I know that Ford used that location on their Aerostar, and other brands like Chrysler have also placed it in that location on their full-sized vans.

I have an '99 E-350 diesel van. I ordered it as a cutaway which means no interior liners. My buddy ordered the same van with full interior but no rear air.
The rear air unit gets installed in the drivers side rear of the van. The headliner is molded for the ductwork (if you have the factory interior)

Even comes with it's own flux capacitor

It's a 2001 One more thing does the "exhaust" pipe for the water right on top of the gas exhaust pipe? I basically have 2 pipes one big one from the engine and a smaller one right on top!!!
