2002 dodge ram radio problem

I just bought a 2002 dodge ram quad cab. The problem is when I turn the truck off the radio stays on even if I open the door.. It doesn't turn off till I hit the power button.. Then once it is off it won't turn back on till the truck is started and I hit the power button to turn it on... Already checked the power wires and they are getting power when they are supposed to be which is where I get confused... Is it something wrong with the radio making it do this?

I am guessing this is not a factory radio?

Aftermarket radios have 2 power wires and 1 ground (plus a few extra items besides speakers).
Of the two power wires, one is straight power (generally connected to a fused, always on connection) and the other is known as a remote wire, which is suppose to have power only when the key is turned on.

Not factory and I know that's why I'm asking both power wires have power when they should.. But it's not operating correctly

There are two power wires to the radio.....a red and yellow.

The red wire connects to the acc circuit and goes off with the key.
The yellow wire is the "always live" line and should always be powered.

Is that how those power wires are responding ?

Yes.. All the wires are hooked up correct and getting power when they should.. Yellow is always on and red turns on and off with the truck...

Sounds like you might have a radio that is going bad or has some change or something inside causing issues. You're best bet is to hit a wreckers and pick up another one.

Note: My son (then 3yrs old) put some change into our van (dodge) CD slot. Randomly the radio would do odd things like turn on and off. Took it out to inspect and found $0.35 worth of change inside.
