Under Coating?? For winter protection.

What kind of prep needs to be done for an under coating? If any besides scraping flaking rust with a wire brush and perhaps a good power wash.
I also remember years ago using a rubberized coating to help prolong the rust that always seems to attack the undersides of our vehicles.
Are the newer sprays lighter and easier to apply?
What do you do to prep and use?

I've used both the aerosol cans of undercoater and the kind that comes in 1 gallon buckets that you brush on. The spray cans are handier, the buckets are cheaper. Basically you just need to make sure everything is clean and dry. I haven't used any undercoater in over 30 yrs - isn't needed much in the south

To get the surface clean first use silicone remover and than thinner to get it free of grease.

If you use spray cans, make sure you don't get any overspray on the driveshaft. I'm told it could possibly upset the balance of the shaft.

Would help to know the type and year of vehicle? There is a reason undercoating places went out of business. Newer vehicles need no addition protection except cleaning.

Undercoat is a waste of time. All it does is plug up drain holes and trap moisture.
