2001 Dodge 1500 4x4 Ram 318L. Oil pressure issue.

My oil pressure gauge went from 40psi to zero while just going down the interstate. No knocking occured as if I still had pressure. I cut off the truck and the guage went back to 40psi and then dropped back to zero. Someone said it could be the oil sending unit sensor. I looked it up and could not find where it is located. My truck does not have a distributor so it cant be there. Any help?

Not sure where the sending unit is on a gasser, but that year model, everything is electronic. Even your speedometer and tachometer. I would locate the sending unit and replace it. It will be on the side with your oil filter. You don't have a distributor? Does your "check gauges" light come on with a ding when it drops pressure?

Its only 19,000 cubic inches. I thought it was a 318 cu. in., so I didn't question it.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. Yes, check engine light comes on and then make a "ding" sound when the guage drops to zero.

Just to rule out the obvious - you have checked the oil level, right?

Oil filter stopped up / messed up / defective ?

By a book on the vehicle , Chilton or Hayes .

Or do a Google search .

God bless
