Savana2500, '00, Speedometer & gears shifting going crazy

Hi,

Having a problem with my Savana 2500 year 2000, V6, 4.3L
Speedometer is showing twice sometime 3 time the speed I'm driving.
Gears are shifting from 1st to D over very short distance.
Sometime ABS light comes ON.
OBD scan show nothing wrong, no error code beside heat sensor bank3.
Did replace the VSS, nothing changed a thing either.
Transmission is NOT slipping, I can drive around with no problem by shifting gears manually.
Where to look for next, the cluster, the ECU?

Thanks for you help.

Some vehicles have two VSS. One is in the tailshaft of the transmission and one is in the differential. The one in the rear affects the ABS.

If your ABS light is coming on then there is a code set. Your code reader might not be able to obtain brake problem codes.

Hi PJmax,
And thank you for your help. I as said, I replaced the VSS on the transmission, I don't believe there is another one on the differential but I'll have a look for sure. Next step i was thinking of is to bring the van to my mechanic and try to get the speed value over the scanner and see what the ECU is receiving.
Question; would it be possible the transmission is slipping just enough to trow off the VSS signal to the ECU (cluster?) but not enough to affect the drive? Beside gears shifting to rapidly according to the actual speed I'm driving at I do not feel its dragging itself....

The VSS monitors the driveshaft turning. It can't tell if the trans is slipping.

My Ford van has a VSS in the trans tail for speedo and a second one on top of the differential that monitors the ring gear and is used for rear ABS monitoring and cruise control speed sensing.

Isnt there a second unit that the VSS talks to under the dash?
