Check spark from coil, 93 Toyota pu V6

I am muddling my way through a no start, Have it narrowed down to electrical issue. 12V + at coil, coil bench tests good. No spark at plugs.

How do I test the spark from the coil to the distributor without electrocuting myself or burning out the coil. I have a spark tester, but does not match up with coil or wire.

93 Toyota P/U with 3VZE, 6 cyl automatic... Jim

Wear gloves or use a tool to hold the tip of the coil wire about a 1/4" from any steel that will act as a ground. Have someone crank the engine. The spark should be orange with a blue tint.

Just FYI.... most coil type systems are supplied constant + to the coil and the negative side is pulsed.
