dodge 2500 4x4 5.7 hemi
I just bought a 2004 dodge 2500 4x4 with the 5.7 hemi and for some reason my oil pressure drops to almost 0 and the check guages light comes on at idle but if I hit the gas it jumps back up to normal pressure is that an oil pump problem or something else

The "check gauge" warning on Dodge is pretty accurate and has saved my bacon on more than one occasion (alternator, overheating, etc.) Anytime a gauge goes out of parameter, it alarms. With that said, It would appear you either have a failing sending unit (hopefully) or your oil pump has gone south. You would need to drop the oil pan to get to the oil pump and it could be a PITA with the transfer case and front drive shaft will be in the way. Or as Marksr says, you could be low on oil or running the incorrect viscosity.

How many miles on this vehicle?
Was it well maintained?
I would start with a compression test to see if it's "worn out"
