Water supply materials?

I am currently designing a new water supply system to replace an old cast iron system in a 1940's house and wanted to get thoughts on materials (ie. copper vs. PEX vs. CPVC vs. other). Any thoughts or success stories or horror stories would be apperciated.

I plumb for a living for what it is worth and I too am remodeling this summer. I ran all drains in PVC and all water lines in PEX. PEX pipe and fittings are more expensive than copper but you can make up for it in labor and the amount of fittings you'll need. The PEX crimping tools are not cheap either but maybe you could rent them. I do not recommend CPVC personally. I call it the home owners copper because anybody can cut and glue. But, I "me" think its about the cheesiest piece of crap way of plumbing. Now all this is just my opinion and thats what was asked for what you choose is up to you. I hope this helps.
