Removing Pop-up shower drain

Our shower tub is draining slow. The drain stop does not have a lever to open/close it. It is a moen push style pop up drain. I tried to remove it so I can plunger it and try to clean it out, but I can't get it out. I went to Home Depot and found the drain stop. It looks like it just screws in the drain. It will not unsrew. I only hear the springs twisting, but the stopper goes nowhere.

How can I get this thing out?

The top of that pop-up will unscrew, under it you will see a screwdriver slot, you have to try a grip the underside of the pop-up so your able to unscrew the top cap. Once the cap is off use a big tip screwdriver to remove the rest of the pop-up

Thanks. It worked. Even the instructions on the box neglect to say that the cap unscrews.
