need to use teflon tape or joint compound?

easy one i'm sure.

do i need to use teflon tape or joint compound on threads to mate galvanized steel to galvanized steel?

i see telfon tape or joint compound used to mate copper to copper, galvanized steel to plastic.

is there a rule of thumb on this? maybe use it whenever you are mating threaded parts?

Thanks

Teflon tape never dries out, doesn't spill and you don't have to wipe your hands on your pants.
Just make sure you wrap in the direction of the threads and make the wrap fairly tight.

Sealing pipe threads

Try a tube of Locktite PST (pipe thread sealant) Available at NAPA stores. It's great stuff. I have thrown away my teflon tape.
