Do I need an air gap for my dishwasher

I'm replacing an old dishwasher and would like to do away with the air gap in my new installation.

I plan to run the new dishwasher drain through the garbage disposal without an air gap.

Is this advisable? What are the potential problems?

Cool

Air gaps are required by code in some places, but you can do away with it by looping the dw drain hose up over the top of the dw before connecting it to the disposal.
My dw drain hoses have been like that for over 25 years with no problems.
Good luck!
