Anyone use PEX plumbing?

A friend recently told me about using PEX (?) or similar flexible synthetic plumbing for a new house. He said the advantages over copper were ease of use, flexibility and corrosion resistance. I have heard of PEX being used for radiant-heating systems, but not for water supply. Is he high as a kite or is it possible/being done? Also, how feasible is it for replacement or upgrading existing plumbing?

It gets used all the time where I live, I don't use it myself, I still like to use copper.

It is a faster way to repipe a house tho.
