House water converted from well pump pressurizing house to wellpump filling nonpressurized holding tank (aerator). Question : What limits maximum decrease in HP for the wellpump now that all it has to do is refill this huge holding tank at its leisure? Have replaced 1hp with 3/4 hp. Output pressure is low(dont know what it was with 1hp) but works and holds prime. Can I just replace pressure switch with one sensitive to lower pressures? Could I have gone down to 1/2hp? Small sprayheads in tank severely limit gpm anyway. Pump rated at 12.4 amps my ammeter says little over 10? any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I'm a newbie and have read a lot of the history but still have several questions. :D First, this is all stuff to happen over the next 5+ years as far as the changes go. I currently live in a mobile home and have propane for the furnace, stove, dryer, and a wall mounted space heater. Works fine. I plan to build a ranch style one story house, smallish as it is just for me and getting done on the method that I need to do a lot of the work to save some money. I plan to run all new appliances, most on propane. Water heater, furnace, dryer, stove(burners and oven most likely), and might look into wall mounted space heaters on the garage for the wall between the house and the garage. I do a lot of mechanic stuff. I might also find other stuff to use the propane for. Currently my 500 gallon tank is across the driveway from the mobile home, so maybe 25 feet or so from several of the appliances and their hook ups. How far can a tank be from the residence it supplies? I have read about making sure the supply line is big enough, but if I leave the tank where it is and need to run a 75 foot length of pipe in the ground, is that acceptable? Is it better to move the tank? I don't mind running the pipe, but need to know if this length will need a bigger size than if the tank was right beside the house. What if the pipe needs to be 150 foot? And sort of on a side note, I lease my tank now and since it has some rust on the outside and was here before I bought my place I think if I buy a tank I would prefer to buy a new one. I know if I own it I can get anyone to fill it, but what are the potential problems with a tank that is around 10 years old to look for? This one simply has cosmetic problems but small surface rust if not cared for can become problems later. I am learning all about my propane as I go on living with it, mostly I like the stuff still working even without the power always working, this is for the stove and space heater thingy. I know there are formulas to see what size line I need to supply the house, but what other things should I consider between leaving the tank where it is and moving it? I guess this could wind up in the new building section, but I am in the learning process and simply making my wish list of what I want the house to have.
