Toilet smell

Toilet 1 year old with new bathroom. Wake up in morning and the toilet smells like ----. Area clean, no visable leaks. Water in house is town supplied and no other problems anywhere in house! I drink and shower with this water and still have all my friends.
Please help!

Cool

If you're smelling sewer gas in that bathroom, you have a vent pipe on the roof above it that is most likely clogged.
If a vent is clogged, water draining through your system will siphon water out of a trap (a toilet has a built-in trap...tub/shower and sink traps are underneath them), which will allow sewer gas into the bathroom.
Go up on the roof, clear any leaves, debris, etc. by hand from the vent pipe, and flush it with a water hose sprayer.
If it is really clogged, you may have to snake it from top to bottom, and then flush it.
Good Luck!

If its a proffessionly done bath there may be a cap on your vent stack that was not removed when your new bath was built. For an plumbing inspection plumber cap the vent stack so they can air test the lines but sometimes forget to take them off.

Toilet Smell

Could this vent pipe clog only affect one bathroom? It is the toilet closet to the vent opening. Vent on a high peaked roof. Want to ask before I climb up..

Thanks, Mike
