URGENT - Sudden musty smell

Hi guys, this morning I woke up to a pretty strong musty smell in our living room. I've never smelled it before and I'm worried. I ran over to ask the neighbor if she had ever smelled anything in the house prior to today, to see if I had just been getting used to it. She told me no. She's a good friend of mine, and she would have told me.

There is nothing wet, no evidence of leakage, no nothing. I have stuck my nose on everything in the room and nothing smells, but it's like you walk into a cloud.

Yesterday, my husband and I pulled the soffit off the house. It's a two story, and the soffit is in the area that the 2nd story overhangs the first story. We found a wet patch on the soffit. Upon investigating, there was an elbow there from a PVC pipe that leads up to the roof. My husband messed with the pipe a bit, and found the pipe was not sealed properly at the roof where it pokes, out, so he sealed that, but otherwise nothing has been done to the house. The soffit and pipe are on the opposit side of the house than the living room, which has the musty smell. We had no rain yesterday, or for several days prior. What could be the cause of this suddenly musty smell?

We have the doors and windows open and we can still smell it, it hasn't been there before. Please help! What could be the cause of this?

Cool

Check the heating and air ducts to that room. Ductwork may have come loose, and/or gotten rain or other water into it.
Are the ducts over a crawlspace or basement?
Good Luck!
