Which is better ABS or PVC?

Hi,
We are adding drain waste plumbing for a bathroom sink to our house. It currently has cast iron pipes. I read that cast iron can be hard to work with and nowdays people use ABS or PVC. Okay, I am all for that but which one is better? ABS or PVC?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
aloha,
Mark

Cool

I have mostly black plastic ABS and some PVC for drain lines in my 1977 home.
A couple of ABS joints have just come apart over the years. Never had a problem with any PVC.
I'm not a pro plumber, but I've seen in the opinion in here that the PVC glue holds better than the ABS glue, but ABS is less expensive.
I would think that either would be fine, however.
Your call.

It can be a code thing in some applications.

I'd go with ABS, but that's just my opinion.

BTW...If you are removing cast iron, just remember it's heavy. You will be surprised at how heavy if you are not prepared for it. Wear eye protection if work is above your head...Hearing protection if working with wife...

I think PVC looks better....
Also, since it's a bit thicker than ABS it should be a bit quiter.
