Question Flapper Likes It's Seat

Re-installed toilet. New fill valve and flapper. All is well...except the flapper won't stay up while the tank empties. It falls back into it's seat like a brick. Checked for interference with the stainless chain. Not. Tried different places on the handle bar. No help. Kinda confusing. Got help?

Thanks,
Gary

Cool

A flapper chain should be as short as possible and still allow the flapper to fully seat.

Righto, OldGuy. It is. Been looking in other tanks, and looks like the flapper seats are not straight toward the stool, like mine. Think I should take off tank and turn the seat?

Thanx, Gary

If you have to turn it, that may be the only solution, but you might also try a stiff plastic flapper with a gasket instead of a rubber flapper... sometimes you can get them to pull up further and stay the appropriate amount of time...

Talking Aha!

Well I be. Guy at Lowe's, where I bought the flapper asked if I had cut off the inner circle where the "ears" are. I hadn't known that was necessary. I did that. Works great now. Would'a been nice if that had been in the directions. Smarter now. Thanks for the responses.

Cool

Yep. You can use the ring or the ears, but I've always found that cutting out the ring and using the ears makes a flapper work FAR better.
