What is "flaring"? Just wondering...

"Flaring" is donewith a special tool to copper tubing, so that it will seal better to a compression-type fitting.

Flaring copper is almost non existent, and hardky ever practiced anymore by plumbers. Most used when dealing with gas piping, some of the old times still like doing this type of practice

In my area, a flared connection is only code for gas... I can't use flare connections on water piping... Why do you ask?
