Bathtub Drain

My girlfriend has an older building, over 60 years old. In the bathroom, when water runs into the sink, it comes back into the bathtub. I've tried rodding out from the tub and sink but this still hasn't helped. I can only get so far. Is there a special type of rod that I should use??

Cool

Try a crank-handle flexible plumber's snake.
Can you get to any clean-out plugs?
