Unhappy PVC/Brass connection leak in bathroom sink

Hi, I am having a little bit of trouble with a new sink drain and sink trap.

The sink drain extension is polished brass and my trap is PVC. I picked up a bathroom trap kit from Home Depot and for some reason I do no get a tight seal around where the brass and PVC are. Every thing is tight, but I can just pull the PVC right off of the polished brass extension and it leaks from the top of the PVC tightening thingy (I forgot the name).

Any ideas?

Thanks
Joe

Try a wrap or two of teflon tape around the washer that should solve the problem

THanks, but what happens is if I take the trap off and just have the PVC connected to the drain extension I can pull the PVC right off. Will teflon tape help that ??

Are you sure you don't have a 1 1/2" trap? Are you sure you're using the correct washer? The washer should barely go on the brass portion of the drain.

Well, it sure does seem like I have the incorrect washer. I'll have to check when I get home. I guess I'll have to see if I can find a reducing washer (they do make them, I hope)

Thanks

If the trap is 1-1/2" then the plactic beveled washer on the right is the one you use.
