flush toliet, doesn't

When I go to flush the toliet I have to hold down the handle for a while and then keep holding it down so it will flush all the way. Does not flush the first time you hold down the handle. What is wrong Thanks

Ok lets solve this, why do you have to hold handle down, is it because if you don't the flapper won't stay afloat and just drops back down?

It is possible the fillvalve is not doing what it's supposed to do, and that if filling the bowl to it's operating level after each flush.

Answer the 1st questions, and then we will be that much closer to solving the problem.

flush toilet, doesn.t

yes, the flapper doesn't stay up, it closes unless I hold the handle down. Does this mean I need a new flapper?

thanks judy

Yes install a new flapper, and see if that solves the problem.

Toilet problem

Hello,

When the toilet is flushes, the bowl does not empty properly. I have done all the things suggested (drain holes etc.), but it still doesn't work. I am using a water saver, and was wondering if the amount of water in the bowl after the flushing might affect it. The toilet is 10 years old, and is a Confidante by Kohler.

Thanks,
