broken toilet

okay,
i know nothing about plumbing, but my landlord is not home and i have no money for a plumber. i thought yesterday that the toilte was clogged, but after plunging for twenty minutes (with a cheap plunger, not a good one) i noticed water was coming out of the side of the base of the bowl. Now when you flush it, the water goes down, but it is diverted to the hole or whatever at the base and it ends up all over the floor instead of in the pipes. so, can i fix this? is it just a really resistant clog or is it something a lot worse. advice please!!!!!

Cool

The wax ring seal under the toilet needs to be replaced, and the drainline has to be snaked to clear a possible clog. (The wax ring may have been damaged from the plunging, if the drainline is clogged.)
You can do a Search above on Toilets to find previous posts on how to do it. (A wax ring only costs a buck or two.)
If you can't find a how-to that helps you, just come back on this same thread and someone can walk you through it.
Good Luck!
Mike
