hot water heater reset button

hello,
I have a 5 yr. old State hot water heater (model # CD5 82 2ORT973 - 240 VAC 80 gal.) that has tripped the high temp. shutoff reset button twice in three days. Both times I have reset the button and the hot water heater produces hot water in 20-30 minutes.

suggestions? I have lowered the temp settings on both thermostats but doubt this is a problem. It has been at the original setting for almost 5 years now.

Thanks in advance,
Hal

Actually Hal, I have a 5 year old Bradford-White water heater that's doing exactly the same thing. In my case the water coming
out of the hot water faucet can get close to scalding hot. So
today I'm going down to Loews and pick up a pair of new
thermostats. They'll probably run me around $20.00 for
both.

New upper and lower stats will solve the problem.
