Need advice - New bathroom in basement

My husband plans on splitting the laundry room in half and adding a new bathroom to the other side. There is a "rough in" there (two holes in floor), but I'm not sure if this is a job for two inexperienced people to take on.

My questions are, have any of you installed a new bathroom? How hard, expensive, time-consuming was it? Any ideas where we should begin. My husband plans on beginning by asking one of the Home Depot guys.

Thanks,

Pat

I just put a 3/4 bath in my basement over the winter. Check out my bath at

I hired a plumber to do the drain lines and pull the plumbing permit. I did the hot & cold water supply piping, as well as the framing, drywall, tile, etc.

I've got about $3500 into it, inlcuding materials and a bunch of new tools. The biggest expenses were the tile ($800), the plumber ($525) and the heavy glass shower door ($475).

Thanks, Brewbeer

You've inspired me to at least give it a try. I might just mention hiring a plumber to do the drain lines and permit to my husband.

Great job on your bathroom. It looks fantastic!
