pressure reducing valve

How do I determine what size prv I need? I have a 1" pvc main water line that reduces to 3/4" as it enters the house. Incoming water pressure is 100 psi. I would like to reduce that to 50 psi. Will a 3/4" prv be ok? Is there some formula I need to use to determine what size I need? Also should I install the shutoff valve before or after the prv?

If you have a basement and you can install a PRV valve there, 3/4" prv will work, if no basement, then 1" prv valve on the line after the water meter, if no shut off at water meter, then yes install a shut off before the prv valve at that time.
