Question stuck screw on outside faucet

I also have a leaky spigot, but cannot remove the screw at the center of the faucet handle. It seems to be a soft screw, like brass or something. It is in so tight!!! I don't want to damage the slot where the screwdriver goes. Any suggestions? I did spray it with WD-40. It did not help. Thanks.

Cool

You're right. It's most likely a corroded-in brass screw.
Try tapping straight down on it to see if that breaks it loose enough for a screwdriver to remove it.
If that doesn't work, if you can't grip it with needle-nose pliers, you might get a small chisel and hammer and try to tap it around counter-clockwise to remove it.
Good Luck!

Stuck Screw in Spigot

Thank you, Old Guy, for your reply.
In the meantime, I just unscrewed the spigot farther down so that I was able to extract the handle and everything down to the rubber washer. Then I just bought a new washer and replaced the whole thing again. It stopped the leak.
Thanks again.
