plumbing diagram for a tub

Ok folks I got a water mark in my kitchen ceiling, took my access panel off to see that the previous owner stuffed a trash bag under the tub connections to catch and water, looks to be old galv. pipe.................. I want to remodel the bathroom eventually, but im not sure if I will replace my tub. Right now all I have is a little access panel 12'x18" or so in my hallway. I want to get new water lines from my basement as they are copper to galvinized in the basement also. it appears my drian pipe goes under the tub and not down the wall like I had hoped. Would it be easier to rip out my kitchen ceiling or tear my tub out to get all new lines up(especially since I cant see where they go)?If i do remodel, do most vent pipes just go up in the attic from the fixture, then tie together in the attic, right now my house is 60 yrs old , and I think they tie togther in the floor or something?

Cool

It would be easier to remove part of the ceiling to see what you're dealing with, and go from there.
Good Luck!
