Red face How do I vent a shower unit?

I am installing a shower unit in my 1/2 bathroom downstairs. I have all of the framing done and am trying to research the plumbing requirements. The main vent stack and waste line is only about 6' away from the proposed shower unit.

I have 2 questions:

1) How do I connect the new waste line of the shower to the existing toilet trap and waste line? The existing toilet plumbing is cast-iron (not PVC). Is there a special connector and should I change both to PVC?

2) If I run the waste line directly into the toilet's line, do I need to vent the shower separately? It's only about 4' from the toilet, which is another 2' from the main waste/vent lines. If the answer is yes, how would I do this? (before or after the p-trap?)

Thanks a lot in advance!

you need to see what your local plumbing allows, it is illegal to tie in a shower or tub to a toilet arm according to the UPC. You will need to find a branch or a stack to tie in to
