Unhappy bathtub stopper not working

my tub has one of those flip (don't laugh)thingys that in up position closes the the plug to hold the water in the tub. I have cleaned all the parts and still it won't totally close off. What is wrong with it? I have cleaned the drain with a brush drain cleaner and have removed the contraption with what I call a hollow weight and cleaned that. I have used the brush to clean on down through the drain for five feet. I am very frustrated. If someone could help without me calling the plumber it would greatly be appreciated.

Cool

The trip-lever assembly is adjustable.
Remove the plate and the assembly again, and lengthen the adjustment until you get it stopping the drain as it should.
Good Luck!
