garbage disposal smoking

After relieving a clogged garbage disposal and resetting the circuit breaker on the unit (it popped out when the jam occurred), the unit now works fine, but puts out smoke and acrid odor still. Is the unit burned out? Is it salvageable, or does it still need replacement?

Generally, letting the magic smoke out of something is a bad thing.

"motors come with smoke inside from the factory, that is what us electricians, HVAC techs, plumbers, and other professionals believe"
"Once it is out, the cat is out of the bag, and replacement is imminent"
gj.
I was taught about smoke in the motors when in tech school!

Who hasn't heard about the factory sealed smoke?

Electronic smoke smells worse than motor smoke though.
